Professional Massage Therapy Training
Phillips School of Massage offers a comprehensive program of study in massage and bodywork that includes three levels of training and continuing education courses in a variety of bodywork modalities.
Many licensing boards (and employers) require a minimum of 500 hours of education.
Level I Professional (230 hours)
Level II Professional (230 hours) and Anatomy and Kinesiology (50 hours) together offer a total of 510 credit hours.
Level III Professional (140 hours) includes Anatomy and Kinesiology (50 hours) and 90 hours of continuing education electives. Combined with Level I and Level II, Level III completes 600 hours of training.
Professional massage training in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
Level I Professional Training (230 Hours)
Students learn a wide range of bodywork styles in both Eastern and Western modalities. Instruction also includes anatomy, physiology, nutrition, body dynamics, self-care and successful business practices.

Two-Part Sessions
You can choose to break up your training into two parts by taking the 100-hour Introduction to Massage Course which is the first 100 hours of Level I Professional Training, and then rejoining any of the Level I Professional trainings within one year of completing the Introductory class.
Prerequisites
While there are no prerequisites, Anatomy I is highly recommended for those seeking to practice massage professionally and may be taken before or after completing Level I.
Introduction to Massage (100 Hours)
As the first 100 hours of the Level I Professional Program, this course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of massage therapy including skills of listening, sensitivity of touch, presence and the ability to respond to individual needs.
Upon successful completion, students will have learned how to give a full-body massage. This is not offered as a professional training but as a gateway for those wanting to explore their interest in massage with the possibility of continuing their studies and completing a professional program.
This course can also be valuable for health and personal care providers such as nurses (100 Contact Hours, C.E.P. # 6284) , estheticians, in-home care providers, hospice workers, personal trainers and others desiring to learn valuable tools for assisting others on their journey toward health and wholeness.

Two-Part Sessions
Graduates of the Introductory Course who decide to pursue a career in massage therapy may choose to continue with their class into the second part of the Level I Professional Program or may join another Level I Professional class within one year of graduation.

Level II provides the opportunity to deepen your understanding and exploration of bodywork through student assistantship and review, internships and advanced courses.

Prerequisite
PSM 230-hour Level I Professional. Anatomy I strongly recommended. Others by permission of the Director.
Level III Professional Training (140 Hours) (600 Cumulative Hours includes Level I and Level II)
This course includes advanced studies that broaden and deepen the practitioner's knowledge and experience while granting the additional educational hours needed to obtain a business license in most states (please consult your local licensing board for the requirements in your area). There is an opportunity to focus on one area of study or to create a general course of study from one or more areas of concentration.
Graduates of Level I, II and III receive a certificate acknowledging 600 cumulative hours of training with PSM. If actual course hours earned in Level I or Level II were less than 230-hours, credits may be made up with continuing education electives. Training may be completed within six months and must be completed within two years of beginning Level I (more time may be arranged by permission of the director).

Level I and Level II.

COURSE CONTENT
Anatomy Intensive (50 credit hours).
ELECTIVES: Choose from two tracks, each 90 or more credit hours, to total 600 cumulative credit hours with PSM.
Track I: An Advanced Assistantship to Level I Training (25 credit hours) and Continuing Education Electives (65 credit hours). Develop communication and teaching skills and deepen your understanding of the techniques learned in Level I as you assist the Level I training. One hundred participation hours earns 25 credit hours. Your commitment is your tuition, and there is no additional charge. (You may choose from any of our continuing education electives for the remaining 65 credit hours.)
Track II: Continuing Education Electives (90 or more credit hours). Level III students may choose classes from any of the credit courses offered by PSM to fulfill the continuing education elective requirement.
PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION:
10 Massages to Professional Massage Therapists with at least 3 years experience and one to the School Director (no credit hours assigned; critiques to be turned in).
Continuing Education and Community Workshops
Expand your practice and explore different bodywork modalities through evening, weekend and extended training while earning Continuing Education credits as required by many States and licensing agencies.
PSM is pproved as a Continuing Education Provider by the California Board of Registered Nurses Since 1985 (CEP # 6284) and listed as a Continuing Education Provider by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
